Thorpe Feidt 1940-2024 – Visual Artist, Jazz History Scholar, Author and intellect beyond measure. Most of his more than 600 works have not been seen by the public. This will be a rare opportunity to view his work through the interpretation of music. Feidt’s artistic process involved allowing each painting to develop naturally while listening to jazz music. His paintings and the jazz he enjoyed were not separate; instead, they blended together as one form of artistic expression.

History in Song – From Ellis Island to the Russian Revolution

Peter Boyer’s “Ellis Island: The Dream of America” honors the immigrant experience through spoken word and orchestra, drawing on real accounts from Ellis Island’s “Oral History Project.” It captures the hope, struggle, and determination of those seeking a new life in America. In contrast, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 12, “The Year 1917” presents a dramatic, state-sanctioned tribute to Lenin and the Bolshevik Revolution. Though patriotic on the surface, its deeper meaning remains debated. Together, these works reflect pivotal moments of transformation—one personal and aspirational, the other political and revolutionary—offering powerful musical windows into defining chapters of the 20th Century. Concerts at Seifert Performing Arts Center, Salem, NH.
